On Settling

People often say that one should not settle. I often wonder if they are right. Should we not be contented with what we have, but continually be in search for something more, something better? But how are we to know if the one we're letting go isn't the best that we'll ever have? Who's to say that there's something more? This thought holds true for love, employment, anything from material things to opportunities.. what should we settle for?

Ally Mcbeal once said "Sometimes if you hold out for something you walk away with nothing." That is the frightening gamble we have to take - waging the one we already have for something that's not a sure bet. IS anythig really worth the stake? Is it worth the the risk of coming out empty handed in the end? Would settling really be that bad? What is wrong with being cotented with what has been doled out to us by fate? Should we not be grateful for what we have instead of pining for something we are not even certain exists? Is it our greed or our ambition that drive us to turn away perfectly good opportunities because we were waiting for a better offer?

All these questions are futile.. because when the shit hits the fan we all have to answer for our own decisions. But if it is true that 'if u refuse anythig but the best, you very often get it'... then i'd be damned. because i personally don't believe in sitting around waiting for the best to come around. Often times.. we should just make the best of what we have and make the most of what we settled for.
