LITHIUM

for the past four (five?) first fridays.. we go to Lithium Night in Toast.. if u read my blog regularly then u must have read about it before. Last night though, was a tad bit different as it was my first time to go there sobre. The general routine for me and josh on Lithium nights is to go to the UC bar, ideally before happy hour ends, get as much alcohol in our system as we can till it's due for us to leave for Civic.
Skipping the Uni bar this week and going straight to Civic without the fortification that Alcohol provides was kind of wierd. I just realized last night that i don't exactly know how to go to Toast, i know it's somewhere in the City.. but usually i just trudge after jorsh.
i think i have a better understanding of what lithium is. usually the night goes by in a blur.. (a good, fun blur) but it was great being conscious for once.
This is how it's described in ITM: http://www.inthemix.com.au/whatson/show/21608/
Lithium - Alternative music fiesta!
Date: Fri 3rd Jun, 2005
Time: 09:00
Venue: Toast - above Electric Shadows
City: Canberra
Cost: $4
If you haven't been to Lithium by now then there is really something wrong with you. Lithium is awesome. It's packed with people, there's lots of dancing, and a loud mix of alternative and retro played until the early morning. There are free lollies at the door, cheaper drinks if you get there early, pool tables, mirrorballs, and all the ambience you've come to expect from Canberra's favourite breakfast food themed venue. Of course we can't force you to go, but your doctor and I strongly advise that it is the best course of action for someone in your condition.Go to Lithium. It's fun.
And this is my take on it:
1. lithium is the night i have to dig out my black night out outfits. (i wore red last night though.. it wasn't as inconspicuous as i thought it might be.. maybe next time i'll wear YELLOW)
2. it's when u get a bloody big red stamp of a monkey. It won't come off for days!
which reminds me:
last night when i got home, i was feeling rather buzzed so i washed my face without much thought to trying to get the stamp out. I woke up with a very good replica of the monkey stamp on my cheek.. and red ink all over my face. wahahahaha.. it must have transferred from my wrist. blah.. it was such a nice sight -- it scared me when i looked at myself in the mirror.
3. Lithium is NOT the place to be pretentious. Ur hair can be all over the place and u can jump around and wave ur arms wildly in the air and no one woul care. they take LIVE AND LET LIVE seriously out there.
4. it's like being in a costume party: wild hair, guys in skirts, the furriest boots u'll ever see, silly hats, studs, eye liners up to the cheeks, fishnet stockings, greasy hair, the works man. i love it! (i'm boring.. soo i stick to jeans and a black or some such blend-me-in coloured top)
5. it's a place where even going to the loo is an adventure! the first night i was asked where i got my hair colour done because it looks so "naturally black" -- umm.. yeah.. my mum did it for me. Depending on how late in the night it is u can also have: an offer of a pash, a sip of goon, a compliment on ur eyelashes, a commentary on the music or a listen to the girl who is bent over the bog spewing.
6. This one i only noticed last night. the previous times i've been so hammered.. i've lost my capacity to read.. there are pretty cool grafittis in the stalls. some of my favorites:
... to be or not to be ... JUST BE!!
Food for thought: maybe men think with their d*cks because we always f*ck with their heads.
i was duly entertained while taking a leak. thankuverymuch.
7. A chance to give Placebo Guy (aka DJ passion pop) a hug! i actually got to talk to him last night. ish. He called me the hot and cheeky asian chick who gives him a hug. wahahahaha. cheeky? when intoxicated. hot? no. placebo guy to lithium is mickey mouse to disneyland.
8. An opportunity to dance to music u won't hear in clubs for the rest of the month.wherelse do they play: yeah yeah yeahs, white stripes, regurgitator, placebo? (did i get those right josh?). imagine.. before lithium.. i considered this music noise. tsk. tsk. i'm learning joshy.. gimme a few more months and i'll know them by heart.
9. go outside for fresh air and a relief from the heat and chat to people u don't know. u sit outside and in less than a minute someone's bound to strike up a conversation with u. there are heaps of interesting people out there. Last night i was talking to a Ukrainian -- we were speaking in Russian.. it's a good thing i get more fluent in russian when i have alcohol in me.
10. a time to be just silly with friends. U can have the devil may care attitude and it's okay coz that's the whole point. really.
so in a nutshell, lithium is: a time to dance, drink, and snog (optional).
ps. since u claim to read my blog.. hello to u ms. clare. it was heaps fun having u there!

QUICKLY: trashed thursday
last thursday i followed my stars and went to places i haven't been to before. hahaha.. well it was thirsty thursday and josh and i decided to take full advantage of the $2 drinks. So off to academy we went -- where crappy music played (although they did play some version of u gotta fight for ur right) and where people were dressed to impress (i.. on the other hand didn't bother to make an effort). So we sat there on the pimp couches refusing to budge even if hoardes of people would sit by us. We'd quietly take a pick from the collection of drinks we have on the table and relish the cheap alcohol coursing through our blood. After a while.. we got tired of all the pretty people around us and took a walk. We ended up in ICBM --> i've always been curius about this club. It's actually a nice place specially since they have comfortable couches as well where we rested our tired bums. Besides... michael the bar man was there to chat to and the bar girl had me pay less because i complimented her hair. We went to Mooseheads when ICBM closed at 2. And for the first time there is no queue outside. So it was my first time there as well.. it was what i thought it would look like.. only the floors were less sticky in my imagination. So that was an alright night of cheap alcohol and going to places i haven't been to. thanks jorsh. again.
