HOLIDAY POST 1: Better Together

I was going to make a looong post about how wonderful it was to be with family over the holiday. But then I don't want to tear up once again. Let's just say, just when you think you are over the homesickness and reckon you are used to being a (as my mum put it) 'globalised'/diplo/ldr family .. you realise that you're not. That deep down you still miss being part of a nuclear family who enjoys each other's company tremendously and love each other unconditionally.

I'm just so sorry Ate Anj couldn't join us but she was always in our thoughts.

and so maybe I'll just leave it with a collage and a song by Jack Johnson from my fave album of his In Between Dreams.
Better Together

There's no combination of words I could put on the back of a postcard
No song I could sing But I can try for your heart
Our dreams, and they are made out of real things
Like a, shoebox of photographs with sepiatone loving
Love is the answer, At least for most of the questions in my heart
Like why are we here? and where do we go? And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy and sometimes life can be deceiving
I'll tell you one thing its always better when we're together

[Chorus:]
MMM its always better when we're together
Look at the stars when we're together
Its always better when we're together
Yeah, its always better when we're together

And all of these moments just might find there way into my dreams tonight
But I know that theyll be gone when the morning light sings
And brings new things but tomorrow night you see
That theyll be gone too Too many things I have to do
But if all of these dreams might find there way into my day to day scene
Ill be under the impression I was somewhere in between
With only two Just me and you
Not so many things we got to do Or places we got to be
We'll Sit beneath the mango tree

Its always better when we're together
Somewhere in between together
Its always better when we're together
Yeah, its always better when we're together

MMmmmm MMMmmmm Mmmmmm
I believe in memories they look so, so pretty when I sleep
Hey now, and when I wake up,
You look so pretty sleeping next to me
But there is no time,
And there is no song I could sing
And there is no, combination of words I could say
But I will still tell you one thing
We're Better together.

HOLIDAY POST 2: Bohol Beats

HOLIDAY POST 2: Bohol Beats

My blog posts are usually heralded by song lyrics that caught my ear while listening to my Ipod or quotes from books or blogs I've been reading.

I've been meaning to make a post on my trip to Bohol .. but somehow I couldn't find the right line to headline it.. and then I realised that it's because my trip was made up of a lot of different kinds of adventures and emotions that one line of thought is insufficient so let's do this one line at a time shall we?

Where do you go when you're lonely / Where do you go when you're blue Where do you go when you're lonely /I'll follow you
{WHEN THE STARS GO BLUE by The Corrs}

Friday

Off I went to the Island paradise of Bohol. The place I so proudly call my province as my mum was lucky enough to have grown up there. I could hardly wait to show it off to Chie, my travel companion and cousin.. and the thing that made it extra special was the fact that Ron, my bestest friend in Oz was there to meet us when we touched down. As we drove through the city of Tagbilaran memories went rushing past and pride was bursting.. I know this place! I can speak the dialect! I know a sprinkle of people.. I have come to yet another place I consider HOME.

And when we got to the marvelous Amarela Resort there was ample time to wind down. Ron and I ran to the beach and danced in the surf like no one was watching (only the guard and some fisherfolk saw us actually..) we soaked up (what little) sun we could have, talked our hearts out, and just let our troubles ride the waves to the other island where we'll come pick it up when our vacation ended. It was an awesome time. Much needed. Much appreciated.

my havaianas, me, ron and with chie

That night, Chie, Ron and I walked the length of the coast and marvelled at the ocean's little wonders and got so soaked to the bone that there was no other thing to be done but be silly and laugh at ourselves for getting ourselves stranded in the same stretch of beach where our resort is at.

Morning and Arvo

lobby of Panglao Island Nature Resort with Madel and Chie

We went to Panglao Island Nature Resort and even though it was raining we took advantage of their facilities (afterall we paid to do just that). Spent time at the resort resto and just chilled.

Night

We started off with a quiet drinking (tagay) session in the resort and then went off to check out Tagbilaran's night life. There was a bar opening at Metrocentre and everyone and their mums were there (not literally of course). Saw what apparently was Bohol's finest and got oh. so. pissed. (or at least i did). Maybe it helped that I saw ghosts from the pasts and I needed dutch courage to get through the night. Or maybe I'm just a plain old alcoholic.

Sunday

Morning and Arvo

last day at amarela resort

Spent some more time at the Amarela resort and swam in the pool and bonded some more over future plans, past loves and life in general. Met the gracious and gorgeous owner of the place Bianx packed to leave the island and went to (Bisaya) mass at Dauis Church.

come and take me home / lead me to your door / take me where you are
lead me to your door / at least just for a while
{HOME by Dishwalla}

And then it was time to go to Loay where Chie and I would spend the rest of our stay at my aunt's house. Loay, Bohol is my mum's little home town and I love it to bits. I remember going there as a kid on school breaks and loving it. Small towns are awesome I tell you. Having grown up in the city (a huge one at that).. I cherish the coziness, friendliness and openess of Loay. It's great being in a place where everyone knows just about everyone and there is an innate sense of friendship and shared history. I've spent quite a bit of time there and I always feel sad having to bid it goodbye. Feelings of nostalgia bombarded me.. and I instantly regreted that i had so little time to spend there to catch up with everyone especially my beautiful cousins.

It's funny how people think nothing new ever happens in the province. But that night I had a first time experience going to a faith healer to help Chie's injury. It was scary, funny and it was something that would only happen in the country.

Monday
Morning and Arvo

Sit back buckle in and hold on tight / A roller coaster ride / And I'm holding on the edge of my seat / And I can't know for sure / 'Cause I just landed on your shore / But I think you got nothing but another thing coming / If you think there's nothing more / That there's nothing more
{
EDGE OF MY SEAT by Switchfoot}

Chie, Madel, Madel's friend Marie and I went to tour the famous sights of Bohol for Chie's sake. I've seen it heaps of times but it's always fun to revisit. No trip to Bohol is complete without seeing the Chocolate Hills, Bilar man made forest, cruising through Loboc river, seeing the "oldest church" in the Philippines, seeing the Tarsier (the smallest monkey in the world) and the blood compact sightS (yes there is more than one. the other 'real' one is in Loay). it was a camwhoring day of course full of adventures and laughter.

Night

let's pick up where we left off / let's string up everything that we've been afraid of we've been living under, we've been taught to remember / and let's learn how to love
{
WHERE WE LEFT OFF by Rocky Votolato}

Fueled by alcohol of course, my cousin madel and I had a heart wrenching talk. We talked about the most painful times of our lives, the things we knew about each other but never had the guts to actually speak aloud about. We spoke, listened, understood and loved each other all the more for opening up. It was a long over due conversation that I hold dear to my heart and regret not having sooner. It will always be my most revered memory of her the breakthrough that made us cousins in heart. The plaza will always be our very own blood compact sight where tears were shed and shared and will always forge us as blood relatives. I LOVE U DEL!

Tuesday and Wednesday

My last two days were filled with more drinking sessions.. laughs.. unending stories.. good natured(?!) teasing.. bonding sessions.. getting reacquainted with people I've known (in different levels) in the past.. new places (ICM??!! it wasn't there before).. seeking answers.. discoveries.. trips down memory lane.. open window drives to the city.. sightings.. new and interesting people.. adventures (of both kinds).. and plain old silliness that's a good sign of fun being had. And so there are different tracks dedicated to this soundtrack of the last 2 nights of my memorable trip..

Tuesday Night

OMG!!! I was so pissed. That's what you get when Rhum and Beer are shared by four people after you've supposedly gone home. hahahahahaha.. I could never live that down.
But now I'm so confused / My heart's bruised / Was I ever loved by you?
{OUT OF REACH by Gabrielle}

I'm walking down the line / That divides me somewhere in my mind /
On the border line of the edge ..

BOULEVARD OF BROKEN DREAMS by Green Day>

Wednesday Night

This night was both funny and sad.. I knew I was leaving the next day so I was feeling quite nostalgic. Good thing the running kept me from being too sad coz just when I was getting to know people .. I had to leave the next day. You never know what adventure you guys will come up with next.

Drink up baby down / Are you in or are you out? / Leave your things behind / 'Cause it's all going off without you /
Excuse me too busy you're writing a tragedy..
{LET GO by Frou Frou}

Thursday

And then all of a sudden.. I had to go. It was a week and it felt like a lifetime and yet I wasn't quite ready to stop living it. Maybe I should just be grateful I had such an awesome time. I loved every single moment of it. I take comfort in the fact that there will always be a next time. That's what home is for anyway.. to come back to.

Lights go out and I can't be saved / Tides that I've tried to swim against, / You've put me down upon my knees / Oh I beg, I beg and plead, singing / ... / Home, where I wanted to go, home ..
{CLOCKS by Coldplay}

I bought a toothbrush, some toothpaste, a flannel for my face
Pyjamas, a hairbrush, new shoes and a case
I said to my reflection. Let's get out of this place.

Tempted by Squeeze

I am off to Manila in a few days. I'm not sure how I feel about it, really. My bestfriend asked me yesterday if I'm excited.. and I didn't know what to say.

I AM excited about the trip. The actual trip. I love being in airports and the feeling that i'm going someplace. I love zipping through the airport with a trolley with my suitcase and handcarry bag on it looking at the other travellers and wondering where they're off to. I don't even mind standing in line to check in because the time seems to be breezing through with the thought that in a couple of short hours you'll be up in the sky towards somewhere.. else. I like looking at other people's luggage and wondering what they deemed important enough to take to another country and guessing what is waiting for them when we touch down. I like how clean and utilitarian airports are and the way people look like they're already off to some exotic destination or an important business meeting. I don't even mind the security checks although I am always a bit antsy on the immigration lines for some reason even if my visas and passport are in order.

I even like stowing my baggage in the overhead bin. Most of the time, there are (taller) people willing to help me get it in there because I seem to always give the I'm too little to do it myself vibe. I love it when we get our own screen and get to choose what movie or TV show to watch; otherwise, I'm content with my book and browsing through the in flight magazines. I like trying to decide at the last minute whether I like tea or coffee and the little cans of soda they offer you.I don't mind the airplane food and I love the little bags of peanuts. I always keep my food plate neat as I don't want the other passengers to think that I am a slob. I hate getting up to go to the loo though, because everyone would look at you as you make your way down the aisle.

I like the touch down and the announcement that the pilot makes when you're on the ground and warning you to stay in your seat. I like seeing the rooftops of the city you're landing in and seeing the contrasts between the city I just left and the one I now find myself in. I like disembarking and thanking the FAs for their help. I don't mind the first burst of air you get when you step off the plane. I love waiting for my suticase to show up on the carousel and being helped taking it off it because I always always struggle with it.

I just love it. Every minute of it. Don't you?

Other things I'm excited about:

~ seeing my nephew I haven't seen for almost a year. He looks so grown up in pictures.

~ being with relatives (my immediate family's not getting there till very close to Christmas which sucks a bit for me coz I miss them heaps)

~ Eating the food. I want lechon, liempo, mangoes, sinigang, kare kare and all the other homecooked meals that I so missed.

~ catching up with friends - over coffee, lunch, dinner, drinks, whatever. I just want to know how everyone is.

~ shopping. shopping. shopping.

~ cheap manicures and pedicures and massages and oh. just being able to afford going to the salon/spa

~ not having to do chores :P

AND LAST but the one that I am most excited about:
beach bumming at the Island Paradise of Panglao, Bohol.

I'm NOT looking forward to:

~ the incredible holiday traffic

~ the crowds in the malls

~ leaving my room, my sanctuary and where all my personal belongings are

~ leaving Jeff.. :(

who's staying here for another two weeks before flying to Cali for Christmas and coming back on the second week of January. That's a total of 6 weeks without him. I am so used to him calling me about 67 times a day and seeing him almost every other day and sometimes more than that. Oh well. Such is life. I'm looking forward to getting goodies from the States though :P

Like it or not. I'll be back in the Philippines in 5 days.

I better get to packing.
