The Magic of Alcohol

THE MAGIC of ALCOHOL

First Fridays of the month have always been about fun and last night was no exception. It started with us taking advantage of the Happy Hour which ends at 10. I got there just in time to chug some vodka and exchange some banter with beloved uni friends and to check out the hot guys in lab coats and with stethoscope (they're supposedly dressed up as doctors).

Night outs are fun because the people (me included) are a tad (or maybe more than just a tad) sillier and funnier. And to illustrate this point let me share with you 3 conversations i wouldn't have had if i or the other people were sobre.

LITHIUM @ Toast
(see related post March 5)
(approaching this guy i have developed an extreme fondness for the last Lithium Night)
Me: Hi! Are you placebo guy?!
Placebo guy: How do you mean?!
Me: Were u wearing a Placebo shirt last lithium night?
Placebo guy: yeah mate! that was me!
Me: (really getting excited) can i give u a hug?
Placebo guy: sure!
*hug*
placebo guy: that sure was nice... do u like the band placebo?
Me: *confused* placebo's a band?
Placebo guy: yeah.. that was what the shirt was about.
Me: I'm really not into punk rock.. i just like going here with my friend coz i find it to be a really unpretentious place. And it feels like a costume party everytime.. i mean look! that guy looks like undertaker from WWF
Placebo guy: He's a good friend of mine. Do u want to give him a hug as well?eeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!!! what was a saying?! tsk. tsk. i think intoxication makes my ability to think before i speak completely vanish.

Doctors and Nurses Night @ UCU Bar
(a few minutes into our awkward small talk)
guy: so... ummmm.. do u a have a boyfriend?
me: (seeing the perfect opportunity to escape) yeah.
guy: which one's ur boyfriend?
me: ummmmm... him! (pointing to josh who's SO NOT my boyfriend)
guy: oh! Josh is ur boyfriend?
me: (mentally slapping my head.. i forgot i was in UNI bar! everyone knows everyone!) well.. technically he is.. he's a boy who's my friend. :p
aaaaargh! how blatant was that?!
(when the conversation was coming to an end)
guy: sorry i was trying to pick u up u know *looking embarassed*
me: kinda figured
guy: oh was i any good?
boy.. if u had to ask.. the answer can't be good

ON MY WAY HOME

(crossing the street from the uni with Josh on our way back to our flat this guy comes stumbling beside us and strikes up a conversation.. we figured after a while that he lives in the same block of flats as i do..)
creepy neighbor: so ummm... can i tuck u into bed?
Me: NO
creepy neighbor: would u tuck me into mine?
Me: NO! (all the while josh was just laughing at me! how helpful are u?!)
creepy neighbor: oh well maybe next time
Me: how 'bout NO?!
that was the worst ever last ditch effort to bring someone home. i do not welcome that kind of neigborly love. jeeeez....

Oh well.. that's what makes drinking fun. I reckon that guy isn't all that creepy when he's sobre.. and i wouldn't have hugged placebo guy if i didn't have heaps of vodka in me.. and i wouldn't have been so stupid as to put my foot in my mouth if i wasn't tipsy. And the best thing about getting drunk?! You have the excuse to act half insane coz u can always say..

"that wasn't me.. it was the vodka."
