candles and champagne

Tonight I had the most fulfilling 'date' with the guy who has made a big difference in my life here in Australia. This guy's my (purely platonic) best friend, who fortunately enough lives in the same flat as i do.

the night started normally enough, with him coming home from work and me in front of the tv commiserating over the fact that i still have class while the rest of the people are having their holidays. Later, when all the dishes have been washed and everything was in order.. we had our ritual nightly smoke and talk.

Tonight was slightly different though.. Tonight i opened a bottle of bubbly took out the candles he brought down from Gold Coast, lit the citronella candles and played our sentimental CD. We delved a bit deeper into our hearts and poured out our emotions. We discussed our frustrations, our hopes and dreams, what the future holds for us, our past mistakes that has made us stronger, past loves and our regrets, current prospects and our fears and the uphill journey of being single yet happy. We toasted the beauty and value of our friendship and clinked our glasses to the elusive love that we are certain will someday come.

As i looked at the candles and sipped the champagne i realized that we need moments like this to celebrate little things in our lives just because we can. To quote from my favorite poem 'you have to plant your own garden and decorate your own soul, instead of waiting for someone to give you flowers'. So instead of dreaming of a special night with prince charming, you make your own magic and create your own ambience and find the substance that you seek from whoever can give it to you.

I was waiting for a special occasion to open that bottle of champagne a friend gave me for my 21st. But then i thought what could be more special than what we just shared? A night of honesty, friendship and love between two people who still found reason to celebrate life depite of growing frustrations and all the unfulfilled dreams.

with my hot bestfriend (and girls he's single!:)

To Ron who i know will be reading this: Thank you and I look forward to more nights out on the balcony. hopefully.. the next time we open some champers, we're drinking to the fulfillment of the wishes we uttered as we blew out the candles tonight. You know i love you so much, right? Someday soon... in the meantime.. i take comfort in the fact that i have you to sustain me through my loneliness.

i'm always on the verge of going somewhere else. Not one to settle, i've lived in 7 cities, 4 countries.. and well.. i intend to keep on counting. i live for travelling, shopping, making my parents proud, going to the beach, hanging out with people as insane as i am, boozing and ummm.. having the freedom to be the occasional bum
