Country Road Trip

COUNTRY ROAD TRIP

On the 22nd of January Meghan, Josh, Jeff and I embarked on a road trip to see a little more of New South Wales. Well.. okay.. we went for the Tamworth Country Music Festival and to get out of sizzling Canberra. I was psyched as I have never been on a road trip in Oz which lasted for more than 3 hours (usually to Sydney.. which doesn't count). We saw a looooooooot of the country side and little quaint country towns complete with one street downtowns with the quintessential pub, chemist, chinese restaurant and cafe. Had occassional stops for petrol and food and pee breaks. We took shots of road ssigns that could only be found down under such as "Koala Crossing" and "Koala Capital of the World". Thought we saw a wombat, a roo and a koala, got Jeff breath tested and bought some cheap mangoes and bad cherries. It was a crusing 8 hours trip to Tamworth and the ride back was just as laid back.
We stayed at Josh's dad cool house and went off to Peel Street where all the festivities were. Every 5 metres there were buskers of every shape and size crooning to country blues. There were artists, clowns, men in stilts, snake wranglers, singers, kiosks hawking souveniers, food and the lot. There was so much to be seen and heard. Every busker had their own gimik going on.
We also had the chance to watch the John Butler Trio. They were awesome awesome awesome. I love that kind of Music.. They were kindof Ben Harper ish.. And the vibe was going and the booze was flowing and the company was great.. what more can one ask for?!
It was a great way to start the year and hopefully there would be more travelling and road tripping to come.

But when the boot was packed with our bags and water supplies were replenished and sunnies replaced and we were on our way back to Canberra.. I was readily singing:

Take me home.. country road.. to the place where I belong...

i'm always on the verge of going somewhere else. Not one to settle, i've lived in 7 cities, 4 countries.. and well.. i intend to keep on counting. i live for travelling, shopping, making my parents proud, going to the beach, hanging out with people as insane as i am, boozing and ummm.. having the freedom to be the occasional bum
